Project DescriptionVisionHul’qumi’num’ Health is committed to offering Aboriginal Community Health Services that are grounded in the Coast Salish traditions, where programs and services flow from the “Snuw’uy’ulh,” the teaching promoting health and happiness to the people – our way of life. Programs will be planned, implemented and evaluated in the spirit of “nuts’amaat shqwaluwun,” one heart, one mind. HistoryOn October 1, 2007 the Ts’ewulhtun Health Centre (TWT) of the Cowichan Tribes entered into a Contribution Agreement with Health Canada through the Aboriginal Health Transition Fund for $150,000 over two years to support a planning process with the goal of expanding the Health Centre’s primary health care and other services to include the provision of health services all of the Aboriginal off-reserve population in the Cowichan Valley. “Help one another, and work together for the good of all.” On October 3, 2007, the Hul’qumi’num’ Health Working Group was established. The long term goal of the project is to close the gap between the health of Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginal people in the Cowichan Valley through the integration of health services between First Nations Health Centres and the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
